Since coming back after the Easter break, year 5 have been learning about 'time' in maths. They have learnt how to convert between various units of time, how to display time on an analogue and digital clock and how to convert between times on a 12 hour and 24 hour clock.
We have been very 'hands on' in Science this half term, experimenting with gravity, friction and air resistance.
Year 5 are enjoying learning all about 'Brazil' for their summer topic. So far we have used atlases to describe the location of Brazil and to study its cities and rivers. We have discussed the climate in Brazil and compared it to the UK, drawing bar and line graphs to show differences in temperature and rainfall.
This week year 5 began reading a book in literacy called Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. This is a story about a boy who is evacuated from his home in London during World War 2 and sent to live in Devon. On Tuesday the children acted out the scene where the evacuees were being chosen. They incorporated freeze frames into their scene, where they discussed the thoughts and feelings of their character at that time.
